Today I was entering in the phone numbers of my new boss. I am about to start a project in Austin with Texas Health and Services Commission. While I'm not excited to be on the road again, I'm at least happy that I'm staffed and in Texas. And hey I get a rental car at my disposal for the time being and can earn some more Marriott points.
Phone numbers saved, I decided to flip through my contact list. 100 + contacts. I don't even know how it got there, but with spring I decided to do some cleaning. 20 people erased. 20 people that I envisioned I wouldn't need to contact in the near future or really ever.
I assume that is a big part of life. The part being relationships of any sort ending. In today's time our lives are not determined by geographic boundaries. We aren't confined to a town in the 13 colonies or to Native American cliff dwellings. We travel and scientists/engineers keep discovering quicker ways to do this. No more messages in a bottle or smoke signals. Email, Cellphones, countless other means all provide ways to remain in contact.
At one point or another these contacts in my phone book were acquaintances, coworker, and even friends. However time apart, our paths continue to diverge. We realize this path will continue to diverge and that reasons to stay in touch with the person begin to fade. We wish them the best and hope their lives go they way they want them to. With time we will come into contact with others. Contact lists will grow again with new relationships and new memories. To those 20 erased from my Sanyo, I hope you continue to pursue whatever it is you want.
